Dyed tint was the standard for decades. It blocks visible light well enough to look dark from the outside, but it does almost nothing to block infrared heat. In a climate where afternoon sun pushes ambient temps past 110 degrees Fahrenheit, a car with dyed tint can still reach 150 to 160 degrees on the dashboard. The tint looks the part but fails the job.
